Some upgrade components have cosmetic effects and others provide additional features. These upgrades can be inserted into armor, weapons, trinkets, or gathering tools. Most require that the equipment has an upgrade slot available and meet certain specifications. The upgrade component can be removed from the weapon, armor or trinket, but it cannot be replaced. (Except for legendary equipment). Upgrade components can be found through the Black Lion Salvage Kit Ascended Salvage tool, or a higher-tier salvaging tool that is attached to an item.
