Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
Item upgrade, also called "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment increases the stat linearly.
Players can recycle up to six items at a time in order to gain a level gauge for each of the item's upgraded components. The cost of recycling items scales according to their rarity and level.
Upgrade components
An upgrade for an item in Guild Wars 2 is a procedure that can improve the stats of your armor and weapons. This can be achieved in a variety of ways through the use of upgrade components or increasing the rarity of an item or its mark level. Additionally, many items can be reforged to increase their stats.
Upgradable items can be found all over the game, both within the world and as rewards for missions. Players can also craft them. Upgrade components are the most common way to upgrade equipment. These are the items that can be inserted into equipment. Most equipment has slots for upgrading, and many require a certain amount of upgrade. Some upgrade components offer specific bonuses, while others offer a general bonus.
There are several types of upgrade elements in the game, including universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gems and enchantments, can be placed on any type of equipment and offer lower bonuses than upgrades that are specific to equipment. Glyphs are only available in gathering tools, and provide numerous benefits, from increasing the speed at which an item gathers to supplying additional crafting materials.
Select the item in your inventory, and then open the Upgrade window. The preview will appear on the right-hand side of the screen. It will show the expected statistics after the upgrade. If you do not have enough of either, the Upgrade button will show as Blocked.
The upper-right corner shows the amount of upgrade components required for an item. The cost of an upgrade increases depending on the level of upgrade and rarity, but it can be reduced through many different methods, such as buying upgrades from a retailer or trading them to other players.
The majority of weapons can be upgraded by adding a prefix, like a rune or an insignia, and others can be improved with a suffix. These upgrades change the name of the item to add an adjective, such as "Radiant" or "Minor vigor. The only exceptions are the non-inscribable weapons, such as shields and foci from Prophecies and Factions campaigns, which are not upgradeable with any mods.
Glyphs

The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and quality of the product you are in awe of it.
Most upgrade components inserted into items can't be replaced or salvaged without dismantling the equipment in question, unless it is legendary equipment and upgrades. However, if you have a rune or glyph that has not yet been added to your equipment, you can transfer it to a different piece of gear by using the Upgrade Glyphs context menu on the Glyphs panel. This will create a Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.
You can remove a glyph by using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. This will destroy the item within which it is placed but you will be able to salvage the upgraded item by using the glyph and its shards therefore, it shouldn't be considered a loss.
A glyph added to an item may cause it to become unstable, and the shards that are left of that glyph will disappear from your inventory once you dismantle the item. You can also add an inscription to your equipment to add an extra benefit. For example the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and distribute it slowly instead of all at once. Reroll tokens
